1950s West Main St -- Fire Equipment on display

Thanks to Rene Elliott for sharing this photo and story.

So just to re hash the issue, as far as known the original Morris fire truck, a Republic (Alma, MI) was supposedly traded in c. 1950s and was shipped to some small island nation in the Caribbean, does anyone know more about it? This was the one that had the pressure bulb under the seat which blew up when someone who didn't know as much as they thought they did increased the pressure while they were fighting a house fire over by Allen's Pond. (Rumors that Viggo Klindt chased him half way back to Morris are probably an exaggeration?). Apparently it had a universal joint issue and at the end used joints fabricated from machinery drive belts, and had to be pushed down to a fire at Stafford's on South Broad St. one time. It had been ordered after the fire which destroyed the Bowne Mansion at Elm Grove, and it's first call was the Richard Franchot house that stood where Boynton's is now on county 51, but supposedly lacked a hundred feet of hose to pump water from the creek and save the house. Ken Cooke also mentioned they once had a wheel come off for some reason. He and Bob Klindt had drove it in winter to fires in New Lisbon and said it was a cold ride.
