1947 Otsego County Fair Scene

Another photo by my father, John Gould. I think it's late 1940s; the license plate on the car in the lower most left corner says 1947. This looks like a display at the Morris Fair.

Rose Elliott I think they revived the fair in 1946?, and the old poultry barn behind the tent, which once stood where the metal building is on the left of the gate as you enter, would become the stage section of the grange building, replaced a few decades ago. Esso was distributed by Oneonta Oil & Fuel until 1960 when they switched to Texaco, this must be a area gas station display? The Ford tractor owned by Oneonta airport would suggest they were the Ford tractor dealer as well? there is a outboard motor on display below the speaker, which explains the advertising banner behind the tractor "Breeze along with power". They also sold Atlas tires.

Rowe Brothers at 25 Market St had a two stall, two story brick building in what is now the vacant lot next to the controversial Ford Sales building in Oneonta, they are the only retailer listed under "Colonial Beacon Esso" in 1942. The building was built at the end of WW1 for Jim Elliott, formerly of Morris, whose sons George and Charles (brothers of Dean Elliott) were in the service, with one bay intended to be a blacksmith shop and the other a garage, and it was later sold to Rowe Brothers. George Elliott running a garage down on River St. in this 1942 directory. Oneonta Ford Sales is the listed Ford tractor dealer, and would have been next door to them obviously, not sure why they are in the same tent here? (A.C. Hooks is now the U Haul rental place on East Main).
