THE MORRIS LINE.

We notice that the Oneonta papers are somewhat mixed in names when they discuss the Morris family of the Butternut Valley and especially Dr. Morris, who donated to the city Neawah Park. If the Oneonta editors will cut out this little article and pin it up in their sanctums it may keep them from making mistakes in this line at least.

Lewis Morris of New York city was a signer of the Declaration of Indepen- dence. His son, Gen. Jacob Morris, came to this valley in June, 1787, and settled here; one of the General's sons was Lewis Lee Morris, who lived where Mrs. Hartman lives, and which place descended to his son James Rutherford Morris, the father of Dr. Lewis Rutherford Morris, the present owner of the Manor house built by his great-grand- father, Gen. Jacob Morris. So the line is like this-

Lewis Morris.
Gen. Jacob Morris.
Lewis Lee Morris.
James Rutherford Morris.
Dr. Lewis Rutherford Morris.
Catherine Louise Clark Morris, aged 9 years.

about the grandfather of Lewis, the signer.
