MORRIS -- Plans for retirement of two long-time teachers in the Morris Central. School system, Mrs. Lulu Hilsinger and Mrs. May Milliken, have been disclosed by the Board of Education.

Mrs. Hilsinger, who plans to retire in June, will have completed half a century in the teaching field. Her last 17 years have been as an elementary teacher in Morris. Prior to that she served in the Oneonta Plains School from 1943 to 1953. Mrs. Hilsinger started, her career in the Smyrna Union School in 1920. Subsequently she taught in the Butts Corners School, the Cooper District, Laurens and West Oneonta before going to-Oneonta Plains. She was born in the town of Laurens, graduated from the Morris High School, the Morris Training Class, and eventually earned the Bachelor's degree from State University College in Oneonta. She is a descendent of the Lull family who were among the first settlers in the Butternut Valley. Mrs. Hilsinger is widowed and makes her home in Morris.

Mrs. Milliken is completing 29 years of teaching in Morris, mostly as an e l e m e n t a r y teacher. She started her career in 1931 as a seventh grade teacher, following graduation from Oneonta State Normal School. After two years she changed to fourth grade for nine years. After a ten year leave from teaching between 1942 and 1952, she returned to Morris, teaching second grade most of the time. Mrs. Milliken, a native of Schenectady, lives in Morris with her husband, Joseph. The have a daughter, Mrs. Merril Schlee of Newark, New York. Both Mrs. Hilsinger and Mrs. Milliken have been mainstays of the Morris faculty, and their contributions to education will long be remembered. They both are active in community and church work and will plan to continue these affiliations.
