First National Bank of Morris blotters, Our Common Interests

Morris National Bank Blotter from 1937

Two patriotic bank blotters loaned by Rene Elliott are presented below.

The top part of the message on each blotter reads:

OUR COMMON INTERESTS

Bank and community are linked together by the closest ties of
common interests. We are responsible to our depositors for
trustworthy handling of their money, to our borrowers for
faithful execution of their program, to our stockholders
for a fair return on their investment. We pledge to our
neighbors our continued faithfulness in meeting these
responsibilities.

THE BEGINNINGS OF LIBERTY
A pre-Revolutionary organization called "The Sons of Liberty" did much
to crystallize sentiment in favor of independence. Many of their meetings
were held in famous old Buckman Tavern on Lexington Green. Later, the
Tavern became a mobilization point for the Minute Men who fired the first
shots in the War for Independence.

THE FIRST FLAG RAISING OVER AN AMERICAN PUBLIC SCHOOL
The first U.S. flag ever floated over a public school was raised in Colerain, Mass., in May, 1812.
It was raised as a Republican demonstration against the Federalists, who opposed the imminent war
with Britain. This flag consisted of fifteen stars and fifteen stripes, the number of states then
in the Union.

[Notes: Colerain, Mass., spelled Colrain is located in Franklin County, MA.
