Morris N.Y. by Ken Cooke

Morris N.Y.
Circa - 1958

DON'T SIT THERE AND TELL ME THERE IS NOTHING TO DO,
THE SUN IS OUT BRIGHT AND THE SKY IS SO BLUE.

PUT ON YOUR HIKING SHOES, GET OUT IN THE AIR,
THERE'S NOT MUCH EXCITEMENT, JUST WARMING A CHAIR.

TAKE ALONG A BAG LUNCH, AND PERHAPS A CAN OF POP,
JUST A LITTLE SOMETHING, FOR WHEN YOU MAKE A STOP.

LOOK TO THE HILLS, THAT SURROUND THIS TOWN,
THERE'S HIDDEN CREATION, NEEDING TO BE FOUND.

FLAT ROCK FALLS AND COOL NARROW RAVINES,
ROCK OUT-CROPPINGS, LIKE IN OLD MOVIE SCENES.

A crash that helped Morris decide to form a rescue squad.

An early Morris Emergency Squad member, Gary Fisher, told me that the crash detailed below in a front page story in the September 14, 1961 edition of the Otsego Farmer and Republican and in the attached PDF did a lot to get people started on the road to the formation of an emergency squad.

Other squad progress is listed in articles linked below.

Morris Village Historic District Placed on National Register of Historic Places

The village of Morris has joined both the New York and National Register of Historic Places, giving residents the opportunity to take advantage of generous tax credits when they make improvements to their property.

“Having this designation is really an expression of the pride we have in our community,” said Stacia Norman of the Morris Historical Society.

Location of the grave of Col. Francis M. Rotch

The Grove, an estate in Morris, NY, was once owned by Francis Rotch - check out this map from 1868 - the Gate House building is represented but not labeled - map of village of Morris

Two old Morris School Photos - Bus No. 4 from Morris Central School - and District #1 Morris School All grades.

To the best of my knowledge these photos were also donated by Lynn Harris. They are both undated. If you recognize anyone in the photos please tell us. Or even if you can tell us what years they were taken. The optics that causes the reflection of the window to appear in the first photo is a mystery to me also.
